The Velvet Bergère Armchair represents the pinnacle of the Azure Moon Veil approach to furniture: an unwavering devotion to historical craft techniques united with a modern understanding of comfort and proportion. The bergère form — developed in the early 18th century for the great salons of Versailles — has been reinterpreted here with meticulous sensitivity.
Our master ébénistes hand-carve the solid beechwood frame in our atelier in the 11th arrondissement of Paris, a workshop that has occupied the same address since 1934. The carved acanthus-leaf detail on the exposed frame is gilded with 22-carat gold leaf applied by a specialist gilder. The upholstery — 100% cotton velvet woven at a historic mill in Lyon — is hand-applied and hand-stitched by our upholstery atelier.
The seat cushion is filled with a blend of white goose down and feathers, providing a gentle, enveloping support that improves with use. The chair arrives with a detachable cushion for ease of care. It is offered in a curated palette of velvet colours, each selected to complement the warm tones of the gilded frame.

Care & Maintenance
Velvet Upholstery
Brush gently with a soft velvet brush to maintain the nap direction. Blot liquid spills immediately with a clean white cloth. Do not rub. For deep cleaning, consult a specialist textile cleaner — do not use domestic cleaning products on the velvet.
Sun Exposure
Avoid placing the chair in direct sunlight for prolonged periods, as this may cause the velvet colour to fade over time. Keep away from heat sources such as radiators.
Gold Leaf & Brass Frame
Dust the carved wooden frame with a soft, dry cloth. Polish brass sabots lightly with a clean chamois. Never use abrasive cleaners on the gold leaf detail.
Cushion Care
The detachable cushion cover may be dry-cleaned only. Plump and rotate the cushion regularly to maintain its shape. The inner cushion should be professionally cleaned and re-stuffed approximately every five years.
